As its name implies, the Civic Tie Rod End is the part that ties together a car's steering rack and steering knuckle through parallelogram linkage. Meanwhile, the steering knuckle has an upper and lower ball joint that it pivots on, creating the geometry of the steering axis. The inner tie rod ends are attached to either end of the center link and serve as pivot points for the steering gear. So together with the ball joint, the Civic Tie Rod End make sure the car steers left and right while at the same time hitting bumps and potholes that might cause the wheel to travel up and down.
